「9月25日時点の ニーニョ 3.4 海域の海面水温（速報値）は 29.822°C でした。これは、2015年11月17日に記録された同海域の過去最高水温である 29.815°C を上回るものです。」
エルニーニョ 3.4（ニーニョ 3.4）とは、エルニーニョ現象の強さや発生を判断するために水温を監視する、太平洋赤道域の中部（西経120度〜170度、南北緯5度の範囲）の海域です。
下のグラフで、赤い線は今年 9月25日までの水温、黄色い線は1991年から2020年までの平均水温を示しています。
